Project Description:
The San Juan River Bridge is located at the Carmelray Industrial Park II in Calamba, Laguna Province, Philippines. The project owner is White Lily Property Corporation (Carmelray Development Corporation - JTCI Joint Venture).
The contract for the project is a Design and Build contract. BBR teamed up with a local contractor, J. H. Pajara Construction Corporation, for the construction of the four (4) lane, 194 meter long and 17.20 meter wide bridge.
BBR designed the bridge and adopted the balanced cantilever construction method for the prestressed box girder superstructure. This design was favored so as to limit the number of piers to a minimum due to the difficult terrain on which the mentioned piers would be built.
- The substructure is composed of two (2) abutments and two (2) piers all resting on spread footing foundations.
- The columns have a hollow core so as to reduce the mass of the structure and to allow the use of jump forms for their construction.
- The pier at the north side of the bridge has a height of 20 meters and the pier at the south side of the bridge has a height of 43 meters.
- The superstructure is composed of three (3) spans with the center span having a length of 90 meters and the two side spans having lengths of 50 and 54 meters.
