Our History

Incorporated in Singapore on 7 July 1993, BBR Holdings (S) Ltd (the “Group”) was established in partnership with the Swiss-based BBR Bureau (later known as BBR Holding Ltd, Switzerland) (“BBR”).

The origin of BBR can be traced back to 1944 when three Swiss engineers, Max Birkenmaier, Antonio Brandestini and Mirko Robin Ros, explored the efficiencies that can be achieved by using pre-tensioned reinforcement for concrete support girders.  The main benefit was that pre- or post-tensioned concrete slabs would require less concrete than traditionally reinforced slabs but yet could perform the same structural function.  Since then, BBR has developed a complete range of pre-stressing and post-tensioning systems, ground anchors and stay cable anchorages, covering all structural engineering applications.  Throughout the decades, BBR has constantly updated itself to meet market requirements and operated successfully on the international scene.  BBR and its affiliated companies, joint-ventures and franchisees (collectively referred to as the “BBR Network”) provides state-of-the-art technologies and engineering solutions worldwide in a wide variety of structures, such as bridges, buildings, marine structures, tanks, towers and in all types of geotechnical applications, spanning some 50 countries from around the world.

BBR VT International Ltd, the technical headquarters of the BBR Network located in Switzerland, is a company formed by BBR together with equity participation by some members of the BBR Network to facilitate the technical development of BBR’s technologies and to regulate the licensee arrangements entered into between the Group’s wholly-owned subsidiary, BBR Construction Systems Pte Ltd and the BBR VT International Ltd, allowing the Group right to use the technology and trademarks granted under the  franchisee agreement and to use the “BBR” brand name in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam for a term of five years.

In 1999, the Group added Property Development as one of its business segments with a focus on developing residential properties.  The projects undertaken by the Property Development division include Lush on Holland Hill, a freehold condominium development with 12-storey blocks, Bliss @Kovan, a freehold site to be developed into a five-storey condominium development consisting of 140 units, Nassim Hill, a freehold development comprising 16 triplex units with basement carparks, and Lake Life, a proposed development for 546 units of executive condominium on a 99-yaer leasehold land at Yuan Ching/Tal Ching Road, Jurong.

In 2001, the Group strengthened its general construction capabilities with the acquisition of Singapore Piling & Civil Engineering Private Limited (“SPACE”), and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Singa Development Pte Ltd (“Singa”).  SPACE was incorporated in 1970 and is registered with the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore (“BCA”) under the “A1” classification for both General Building (CW01) and Civil Engineering (CW02) since 1984.  “A1” is the highest classification of registration under the BCA that enables SPACE to tender public sector contracts of unlimited value.

In 2013, the Group established a new Green Technology division to carry out system integration and distribution of renewable energy.
